A new video game does one better: it lets you tee off as or against them.
Obviously we're talking about a virtual trip to Georgia's historic Augusta National Golf Club, but golf fans who want a taste of the springtime event can pick up EA Sports' "Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters."
The latest in the best-selling golf simulation doesn't stray far from past games in the series, but adds The Masters —" a first for the 13-year-old franchise —" along with caddies, a revamped career mode and new players.
The core game remains the same, however: Choose to play as one of 20 PGA golf pros, including regulars like Tiger and Vijay Singh or game newcomers Rhys Davies, Zach Johnson and Bubba Watson, or you can create your own golfer from scratch by tweaking various characteristics. If you like, you can also import your own face into the game via easports.com or a console camera.
Along with Augusta National—" which EA Sports laser-scanned in order to recreate the course in every digital detail — 15 other authentically modeled championship courses are in the game, too, including Pebble Beach Golf Links, St Andrews Links, The Royal Melbourne Golf Club and TPC San Antonio.

"Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters" is the latest PGA Tour golf sim from EA Sports.
"Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters" offers a number of different modes, including quick games and Internet tournaments for up to 4 online players as well as a meatier Career mode that follows an amateur golfer's rise to become a PGA Tour pro. This lengthy game includes earning experience points, taking on sponsors and purchasing equipment upgrades. The game houses a fun "Masters Moments" mode, where you can relive some of the best moments from Masters history dating back to 1935 in nine different challenges. EA Sports has also added a Caddie Mode, where you're paired up with a caddie who can give you helpful advice based on the course, wind and such.
Visually speaking, the game looks about the same as last year's "Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11," but there are a few enhancements to controlling your golfer, whether you prefer to use the controller's analog sticks (PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 version) or want to take advantage of motion-sensing technology via the PlayStation Move peripheral or Nintendo's Wii MotionPlus accessory. Too bad there's no support for Microsoft's Kinect for Xbox 360.
Major fans of the series won't be disappointed with this sequel as there are enough new goodies to justify the purchase —" including the ability to win the coveted green jacket — but casual players might think twice if they're still happy with last year's game.
While not tested, the Nintendo Wii version supports the Wii Balance Board (primarily for balance), plus it offers more courses (25 in total) and minigames, too.
